and economic development of Pomeroy village and district in order to make the area a
more attractive location in which to live and work”. There is an emphasis on improving
cross-community relationships with other groups to form a united approach to the
areas social development, economic prosperity and communal harmony. The group is
developing a business park in the village.

Pomeroy Pre-School Education and Family Centre

The Pomeroy Family Service’s Centre provides a range of practical support services for
particularly vulnerable sections of the local community - pre-school children,
lone parents, women returners, the long term unemployed, and youth. The global
objectives of the project is to provide an integrated ‘family friendly’ facility that will
bring people together and encourage them to play a greater role in the common
regeneration of the local community and economy.

The services of the centre encompass pre-school care, after-school care, a
homework club, a book and toy library, and training activity aimed at provision for
  children.

  Pomeroy Social Activity Group

This is in the main rural housing estate group that has come together to address social
exclusion in the area and to meet the needs of local residents. Research has shown that
people in the estates wish to develop facilities for youth and the elderly. The group
hopes to obtain a ‘community house’ on the estate from the Housing Executive.

Pomeroy Historical Society

The group aims to provide a social and educational outlet for the local community.  To date they have travelled to various museums and local attractions including the Ulster Transport Museum, Armagh Museum, Beaghmore Stone Circles and the Robinson Library in Armagh.  They have also held two talks, one on environmental issues affecting the area and one on the history of forestry in Northern Ireland.

As the group is still quite young they plan to engage in educational courses that will help them function efficiently and network and liaise with other groups.  The group aims to increase membership and funds over the next year.

  Pomeroy Pre-School Playgroup

This group emerged due to the lack of provision of child pre-school places in the area. The group employ 2 educators and were successful in developing the necessary buildings and resources required to keep children busy throughout the day.
