Incorporating
Derryloughan/Derrytresk/Brocagh & Clonoe
Areas
This area is situated on the south western
corner of
Lough Neagh among wooded and raised
sphagnum
peat bogs and low lying flood plains.
Close to the
historic and industrial town of Coalisland
and
transversed by the Ulster canal system.
Bounded by
the River Blackwater to the east, the area
exemplifies the pressures experienced by a
relatively high rural population.

Muintir Na
Mointeach
Muintir Na Mointeach, ‘the people of the
turfland’ formed in 1995 as a community
cultural group to preserve and retain the
strong sense of tradition, cultural
inheritance
and local tradition found in this area of
natural beauty. The group has organised a
range of projects which enhance the
cultural identity of the area. Currently the
group
is examining the re-development of the
Washingbay site, improving access to
Lough Neagh, providing a traditional
meeting place for local residents, play
areas and
visitors facilities.
The group are developing
a holistic healthy living centre
in 2004/2005.

Derrytresk Community
Organisation
Derrytresk Community Organisation was set up
in 1998 to address the concerns of
the local community, to strengthen the social
fabric and to help protect the
environment. The group has re-established the
regeneration of two derelict water
pump sites as part of a millennium project,
has set up a club for elderly residents,
has developed a local townland names project
and is starting up a youth club in
the area. |

Clonoe Rural Development Agency
When the group formed the main aim was to
establish a multi-purpose community
centre to meet the needs of local
organisations. Clonoe Community Centre was
opened in June 1998, the first millennium
commission major project in Ireland. It is
now a thriving focal point in the heart of the
community incorporating a wide variety
of activities; social, recreational and
educational needs being met by the community.

Clonoe Community Association
The association was recently formed to assist
in community development and
regeneration of the area.The
group are particularly interested in working
with local housing estates and youth.

'Low Country'
Smallholders and Farmers Group
The Low Country Smallholders and Farmers was
formed through CWSAN in 1998 to address
pertinent issues facing farmers by exploring
opportunities for on and off farm
diversification from smallholder and
traditional agricultural occupation. The group
has investigated charcoal and coppicing of
local timber as a potential income
supplement. They are currently setting up a
machinery hire business.

Clonderrbroc Women’s Group
The group comprises the four areas of Clonoe,
Derrylaughan, Derrytresk and Brocagh.
The group strives to meet the needs of local
women whilst also raising the profile of
important women’s issues in the rural area.
The group was helped to reform by CWSAN
in 2004.

Brocagh
and District Regeneration Group (BADGER)
BADGER was formed in 1995 with the purpose of
helping
facilitate economic and social development in
the local
area. BADGER has recently finished the
development
of a tourism/community facility in the area
known as
Castlebay. A range of facilities are available
to the
local community, including work units,
restaurant,
picnic area and computer suite. The centre is
on the
shoreline with access to the Lough via it's
own marina. |
